The bridge over Hongshui River, situated in Tian'e County in Hechi City of Guangxi, is a two-way four-lane bridge with a total length of 2,488. It is the world's longest steel-reinforced concrete arch bridge in terms of span. [Photo/Xinhua]Spearheaded by Professor Jielian Zheng of Guangxi University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the nation is delivering projects that don't just impress on paper but are breaking ground in more ways than one. Unlike previous record breaking arch spans that have always been made of steel, the Longtan Tianhu Bridge is made of concrete. Steel was only used internally as part of a skeleton core. At 11:00 on February 1, 2024, the world's largest span of stiff skeleton concrete arch bridge—Tian'e Longtan Grand Bridge of Guangxi Nandan-Tian'e Expressway was completed and opened to traffic, which is the world's first arch bridge with a span of more than 600 meters.
